SUMMARY

Profession: Veterinary Surgeon with Interests in Welfare of working animals, Preventive
medicine and one health, Disease mapping and modelling, Risk factors and ecology of

FIELDS OF SPECIALIZATION

Gilbert Kirui graduated from faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi in 2003 where he holds an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (2003). After a period in clinical practice, he received a project scholarship from ADB ALLPRO under which he completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Studies investigating Factors influencing production of camel calves in Marsabit Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). He worked for Not for Profit (NGO) organizations rising from veterinary officer to regional programme manager and welfare officer. He is pursuing a PhD at University of Nairobi, Department of Clinical Studies where he has been a tutorial fellow from 2011 to 2019 and is currently finalizing his PhD thesis on Lameness in Donkeys and its effect on livelihoods of donkey dependent communities

He has participated in One Health interventions including gap analysis, risk analysis, workforce development, training program development. Some of the key engagements include Community based One Health Training for University Students, Rabies control programs, Urban Zoonosis Research, One Health emergency response for infectious disease control or in response to conflict. He has also conducted research on digital identification framework and access to national Identity card system in Kenya.
