    • Applicants should own a bachelor's

Every year, CI holds a variety of cultural activities, such as Chinese Corner, CI Day, Traditional Chinese Festival experience, etc. Students have many opportunities to learn about such colorful cultures as Chinese songs and dances, calligraphy and paintings, artistic works, food and so on.

Confucius Institute at Egerton University was established in July 2012 with the joint efforts of Nanjing Agricultural University and Egerton University as the first Confucius Institute with agricultural characteristics in the world. Since its establishment, the Institute has carried out a great deal of tasks in in Chinese language teaching, cultural exchanges between Kenya and China, agricultural vocational and technical training, joint degree programs for postgraduate students. The Institute provides Kenya people with opportunities to learn Chinese language and culture.

 

Chinese Language Programs

Chinese courses of different contents are offered here from level 1 to level 5 according to the learners' Chinese language proficiency, and the classes for each level last for one semester. Students who successfully complete all the courses will be awarded a certificate by the Institute.

Certificate courses include Integrated Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Writing, Chinese Culture, Chinese Talents (Chinese dance, Martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese painting), etc. Based on the training of fundamental skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese language, the courses here aim to cultivate the students with the comprehensive ability of using Chinese in their practical communication.

Outstanding CI students can apply for Summer Camp program to pay a visit to China, and/or scholarship program to continue further education in China.

The Institute sends a group of 15-20 students to China for a two-or-three-week study tour each year. The participants have the opportunity to visit Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing or other places. Their international airfare and accommodation in China are covered by the Institute.

Each year, Confucius Institute offers CI scholarships and CSC scholarships to the excellent CI students for further study in relevant universities in China.

 

The Coverage and Criteria for CI Scholarship

Two types of scholarships are full scholarship and partial scholarship.

  1. Full scholarship winners are exempt from tuition, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with monthly living allowance, and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. Monthly living allowance are provided at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
    • CNY 2,500 for Bachelor's Degree Students, One-Academic-Year Students (11 months) and One-Semester Students (5 months);
    • CNY 3,000 for Master's Degree Students;
  2. Partial scholarship is as same as full scholarship, except for monthly living allowance.
